About Organizing Commands and Controls on a Ribbon Panel

Commands and controls are added to and organized with rows and sub-panels on a ribbon
panel.

Commands and controls on a ribbon panel can be organized using

  • Rows – Horizontal organization containers that determine the order and position of commands
and controls on a ribbon panel. Rows run horizontally on a ribbon panel no matter
if the ribbon is displayed horizontally or vertically.
  • Sub-panels – Sub grouping containers that allow you to organize rows within a row on a ribbon
panel. For example, you can use a sub-panel to divide up a row into one or more rows.
This is how many ribbon panels are organized, a single row of commands with large
buttons and then the same row is divided into multiple smaller rows of commands and
    controls.
  • Fold panels – Similar to sub-panels, fold panels collapse to just show images only when space
is limited on the ribbon. Button Style must be set to Large with Text in order for
a fold panel to work. Fold panels can be converted into sub-panels.
  • Slide-out – Area that contains rows which should be hidden by default, and displayed only when
the ribbon panel is expanded. A down arrow to the right of a ribbon panel’s title
indicates that the ribbon panel can be expanded.
  • Drop-down menu – Single button control that allows the grouping of multiple commands.
  • Menu separators – Vertical line that is used to create a visual grouping of related commands, controls,
sub-panels, and other items on a ribbon panel within a row.

The following table describes the properties for the Line command of Row 1 on the
